Overview |
This is a masterpiece by the modern writer Okamoto Kido and one of the representative works of so-called New Kabuki. Okamoto has used elements of an old ghost story in Kabuki but has thoroughly modernized its essence: the new version removes the ghosts and is rewritten as a tragic love drama more in line with contemporary tastes. This is reflected in the hero’s long speech, one of the show’s highlights, in a poetic and lyrical passage. ★main graphic★ |
