Shizuka Gozen
Yoshitsune’s mistress. Formerly a temple dancer in Kyoto. She follows Yoshitsune as he flees to Daimotsu Bay. She is forbidden by him from going any further, and returns with sorrow to Kyoto.
Tomomori’s ghost
Tomomori is a real-life warrior who drowned at the seminal battle at Dannoura, where the Heike clan was exterminated. The fourth son of Taira Kiyomori, he was in effect the leader of the clan on the military side. He carries a fierce resentment against his enemy to the grave. He returns as a ghost to attack Yoshitsune and his retainers.
Minamoto Yoshitsune
A soldier in the Genji clan who contributed significantly to the extermination of the Heike clan. Nevertheless, a conflict with his brother, who has taken over as the top leader, forces him to flee.
Musashibo Benkei
Yoshitsune’s most trusted retainer, superior in both intellect and physical strength. He realizes that he cannot beat Tomomori’s ghost with conventional weapons and uses the power of prayer to defeat him.
Kamei Rokuro, Kataoka Hachiro, Ise Saburo, Suruga Jiro
Known as the Four Heavenly Guardians, these are accomplished warriors who accompany Yoshitsune. They appear in numerous works connected with Yoshitsune.
Mihodayu
Head shipman. Supportive of Yoshitsune, he arranges the fastest ship and most skillful rower.
