Sanbaso
Marionette representation of Sanbaso. He dances a prayer for the harvest through various gestures, including stomping his feet, shaking a bell as a symbol of grain, sewing seeds and representing the flight of crows.
Okina
Symbol of divine god. Performs a solemn dance to pray for peace in the land.
Senzai
Symbol of youth. He appears as a guide to Okina. He hands the mask to Okina and dances together with him. This role can be performed by either male- or female-role specialists and is sometimes staged with multiple actors.
Assistant
This is not the typical Kabuki assistant but a puppet master who himself becomes a character in the show. He pulls the Sanbaso actor out of a wooden box and makes him dance by manipulating the strings, supporting Sanbaso’s performance.
